HANOVER — The Hanover Police and Fire departments responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Webster Street and Juniper Lane at approximately 11:32 a.m. Thursday.
The crash involved a transport van carrying multiple occupants and a four-door sedan, with the van coming to rest on its side.
Both vehicles sustained moderate to significant damage, according to a joint press release from the departments.
The Hanover Fire Department declared a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident due to the number of people involved.
Nine ambulances responded to the scene to handle the emergency.
Thirteen patients were triaged, treated and transported to area hospitals for further evaluation.
Mutual aid was provided by fire departments from Abington, Hanson, Hingham, Norwell, Rockland and Whitman.
Hanover Fire utilized Ambulance 1, Ambulance 2 and Engine 1 in the response.
During the incident, off-duty Hanover Fire personnel and a Pembroke Fire ambulance responded to an unrelated medical emergency elsewhere in town to maintain emergency service coverage.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Hanover Police Department.
