EVERETT — Everett police arrested an 18-year-old Malden man Monday evening after a vehicle pursuit led to the discovery of a stolen loaded handgun.
Adam Elbadaoui was taken into custody following a motor vehicle stop where officers found he was driving with attached plates and operating recklessly.
Officers Palermo and Uga observed a vehicle with New Hampshire plates matching the description of a car wanted by Virginia police in Bedford for failure to stop.
The Virginia police had reason to believe the vehicle contained a firearm.
The plates on the vehicle came back to a grey Hyundai Sonata, but they were attached to a black BMW sedan.
After a short pursuit, officers stopped the vehicle on Waters Avenue.
Officers ordered the operator and four passengers out of the vehicle.
Since the vehicle had attached plates from another vehicle, officers decided to tow it and conducted an inventory search.
During the search, they found a loaded Glock handgun with a magazine inserted and a round in the chamber.
Officers determined that none of the parties in the vehicle had a license to carry.
An additional check revealed the firearm was reported stolen out of Saugus.
Elbadaoui was charged with multiple firearms violations, multiple motor vehicle violations and receiving stolen property.
He was arraigned Tuesday in Malden District Court.
