CASTLE CREEK — New York State Police arrested a 32-year-old Castle Creek man July 8 on felony assault and contempt charges.
Joshua T. Shurtleff was taken into custody at approximately 5:13 p.m. and charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, and first-degree criminal contempt, a class E felony.
Troopers from the Binghamton barracks responded to a report of an order of protection violation at a private residence in Castle Creek after being dispatched by the Broome County 911 Center.
Police determined Shurtleff was violating a full stay away order of protection.
When troopers attempted to arrest Shurtleff, he resisted and began fighting with officers, according to police.
Shurtleff was eventually placed in handcuffs and taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being processed at the State Police barracks in Binghamton.
He was later transported to the Broome County Jail for centralized arraignment.
