WESTMORE — Authorities are investigating a report of an armed threat at South Beach on Lake Willoughby that remains uncertain after everyone involved reportedly fled before police arrived.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police Derby barracks and deputies from the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department responded to the beach at 11:32 p.m. on July 4 after receiving a call about an individual allegedly threatening others with a weapon.

But by the time officers reached the scene, there was no one left to question — and no visible signs of a disturbance.

Investigators say poor cell phone reception caused the reporting party to disconnect, and no further details have been confirmed.

So far, there are no reports of injuries and no identified suspect.
