Everett police arrest 2 suspects, recover firearms after shots fired incident

EVERETT — Everett Police arrested two suspects and recovered two firearms following an attempted shooting Friday night near Staples Avenue.

Arrested were Anthony Colometo, 40, and Stephen Speranza, 40, both of Everett.

Officers responded to the area of Central Avenue and Staples Avenue for a report of shots fired around 9:24 p.m.

Officers spoke with the witness and were able to secure ballistic evidence and video of the suspects who had fled the scene.

In the early morning hours around 1:30 a.m., officers observed two males fitting the description of the suspects from the shots fired incident.

The suspects were stopped and were found to have ballistic evidence consisting of 9mm ammunition in their pockets.

The suspects were placed in custody.

During a search of the surrounding area, officers recovered two 9mm handguns underneath a motor vehicle.

“This is another great example of the proactive police work our Everett Officers do on a regular basis,” stated Police Chief Paul Strong.

“I commend them for their professionalism and diligence in locating the suspects and taking 2 firearms off the street.”

The suspects will be charged with multiple firearms violations and arraigned in Malden District Court on Monday.
