JEFFERSON — A Florida man is deceased, and a Wentworth man is seriously injured after a crash on Route 115.
At 11:46 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, Troopers assigned to the Troop F barracks responded to a reported single-vehicle crash on Route 115 in Jefferson.
When first responders arrived, they saw a car in a field, off the west side of Route 115, near Stag Hollow Road.
The preliminary investigation determined that Stephen J. Gooden, 68, of Wentworth, was traveling southbound in a 2016 Honda CR-V when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle did not negotiate a curve in the road and drove down an embankment before striking a utility pole and a tree.
Gooden suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Lifesaving measures were attempted on a front seat passenger in the vehicle, identified as Maurice C. Sasse Jr., 70, of Silver Springs, Florida, but were ultimately unsuccessful.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Jefferson Fire Department and Lancaster EMS.
While the preliminary investigation indicates a medical episode may have contributed to the collision, all aspects of the crash remain under investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Conor Doyle at (603) 715-7459 or Conor.F.Doyle@dos.nh.gov.
