TOWN OF FENTON — A Pennsylvania man is facing multiple felony DWI charges after crashing his vehicle with two small children inside in the Town of Fenton.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded at approximately 3:22 p.m. Monday, May 26 to a one-car accident involving juvenile passengers in the area of 792 NY Route 369.
Upon arrival, deputies located the driver, Jason M. Delong, 42, of Susquehanna, Pa., and two passengers, aged 3 and 4, inside a nearby residence.
Broome Ambulance and the Port Crane Fire Department also responded, and EMS evaluated and cleared the two children and driver.
The investigation determined that the vehicle, traveling north on Route 369, left the roadway, struck a guard rail, crossed two lanes of traffic, and came to rest on Gould Rd.
Patrols found there were no child safety seats in the vehicle.
Deputies reported that Delong displayed signs of impairment, including glossy eyes, poor coordination and balance, and failed Standard Field Sobriety Testing.
Delong also had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Pennsylvania for a probation violation.
Delong was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated DWI with a child passenger under 16, driving while ability impaired by drugs with a prior conviction, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, all class E felonies, and two counts of reckless endangerment in the second degree, class A misdemeanors.
He was processed and arraigned at the Central Arraignment Part before being remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.
The two children remained at the nearby residence with a community member and members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office until a family member arrived to take them home.
