Gloversville firefighters rescue pets, resident from S. Main St. blaze

GLOVERSVILLE — Firefighters rescued one resident and several pets from a structure fire at 45 S. Main St. Tuesday evening, according to the Gloversville Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 5:36 p.m., prompting a response from both Gloversville and Johnstown fire departments.

Battalion Chief Mike Putnam discovered a working fire upon arrival and called for additional resources.

Firefighters Brandon Paul and Tyler Cosselman rescued a dog from the second-floor apartment where the fire originated in a bedroom.

The firefighters then proceeded to extinguish the main body of the fire.

Johnstown firefighters Jeff Palkovich and Sam Caruso searched the floor above the fire, where they found an occupant attempting to escape heavy smoke conditions.

They escorted the resident to a fire escape.

In total, firefighters rescued three cats, two dogs and one occupant from the building.

Lake Valley medics successfully resuscitated the dog from the apartment where the fire started.

No injuries were reported, and damage was contained to the apartment where the fire began.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gloversville Fire Department and Gloversville Police Department.

Assisting agencies included the Fulton County Fire Coordinator’s Office, Lake Valley EMS and National Grid.

All emergency units cleared the scene by 7:11 p.m.
