WATERBURY — The Waterbury Police Department is investigating a series of armed robberies targeting people selling electronics through Facebook Marketplace.
Three separate incidents occurred on Friday, May 9, Monday, May 12, and Saturday, May 17, all in the Fiske Street area.
According to police, victims were lured to the location after arranging to sell electronics including an iPad, a gaming laptop, and an iPhone.
In each case, the suspect requested that sellers factory reset their devices and provide video proof before meeting.
When victims arrived at the agreed location, they were confronted by an individual who either threatened or displayed a firearm.
No injuries have been reported in any of the incidents.
Police are advising residents to use designated police department safe exchange zones when conducting online marketplace transactions.
Additional safety recommendations include avoiding unfamiliar or secluded locations, bringing a companion, and trusting instincts if a situation feels suspicious.
