GLOVERSVILLE — A major fire in Gloversville Tuesday evening resulted in an arrest within two days, according to fire officials.
The April 29 blaze was the third major multiple-alarm fire in the city in the past year and a half.
Gloversville and Johnstown Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene, with additional support from several volunteer departments including Berkshire Fire District, Meco Volunteer Fire Company, Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Company, Perth Volunteer Fire Company and Mayfield Fire Department.
Gloversville Police Department assisted with traffic and crowd control, and conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of an individual who allegedly started the fire.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and Johnstown Police Department also provided assistance at the scene.
Fulton County Emergency Management Director Steven Santa Maria and EMS Coordinator Marc Souza helped coordinate mutual aid from fire and EMS services.
Lake Valley Ambulance was on standby in case of injuries, while Gloversville Water Department provided information on water supply.
Fire officials expressed gratitude to local businesses and community members who provided food and refreshments during the firefighting efforts.
