NEWPORT — The Memphremagog Watershed Association has released its 2025 summer calendar featuring free educational programs, outdoor activities and volunteer opportunities aimed at protecting local waterways.
The calendar includes events designed to connect community members with the natural environment while promoting stewardship and sustainability throughout the watershed region.
“Spring and summer are the perfect times to engage with the community and to get folks out on the land and water,” said Marnie MacKenzie, vice president of MWA. “Our events are meant to inspire, educate and empower people as we learn, connect and contribute to the health of the waterways we all depend on.”
The free public events begin May 3 with a Green Up Day volunteer event at Newport’s Gateway Center, followed by a “Spring News & Brews” discussion on forest management in the Northeast Kingdom on May 9 at Goodrich Library.
Other highlights include a Vermont Greeter Access Program training session on May 18, a phragmites removal volunteer event on May 25, and various June activities including a bird walk at Eagle Point in Derby, a lakeshore planting day, and a wetland paddle with educational talk.
In August, the association will host its annual meeting followed by the Memphremagog Matters Symposium focusing on regional geology. The season concludes with a September river cleanup in partnership with NorthWoods Stewardship Center and Orleans County Natural Resources Conservation District.
All events are free and open to the public, with activities suitable for various interests whether participants are conservation enthusiasts or simply curious about the local natural environment.
