LYNDONVILLE — A St. Johnsbury man has been charged with eluding police and driving with a suspended license following a December incident that led to a pursuit through multiple towns.

Charles Richardson, 58, was cited for eluding a police officer while engaging in negligent operation, negligent operation (second or subsequent offense), and driving after criminal suspension, according to the Lyndonville Police Department.

The incident occurred on December 17, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. when a Lyndonville police officer monitoring traffic on Pleasant Street attempted to stop a white truck for multiple motor vehicle violations near the intersection with Jones Street.

The vehicle failed to yield and drove through downtown St. Johnsbury and the Four Seasons neighborhood before exiting onto Western Avenue and heading westbound on US-2 toward Danville.

Police pursued the vehicle on US-2 until calling off the chase in the Cabot area, with the truck last seen continuing westbound.

Investigation by Cpl. Steven Hartwell of the St. Johnsbury Police Department during February and a subsequent follow-up interview conducted by Officer Gerrish led to Richardson being cited for the incident.

Authorities discovered Richardson was under a lifetime criminal suspension for prior DUI-related actions at the time of the incident.

Richardson is scheduled for arraignment in Caledonia Superior Court on April 21 at 8:30 a.m.
