LEICESTER — A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of US Route 7, Leicester Whiting Road and Fern Lake Road at approximately 2:35 p.m. on March 10.

Vermont State Police responded to the crash involving an on-duty Addison County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

According to the investigation, Riley Benoit, 28, of Shoreham, was driving a 2020 Ford Explorer and had stopped at a stop sign on Leicester Whiting Road before attempting to cross US Route 7 to continue east onto Fern Lake Road.

David Moats, 77, of Salisbury, was traveling north on US Route 7 in a 2016 Honda HRV when the front of his vehicle collided with the rear passenger corner of Benoit’s Explorer.

Investigators determined Benoit failed to yield the right of way, causing the collision.

Neither driver was injured in the crash, and both were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident.

The Brandon Fire Department assisted state troopers at the scene.

Road conditions were dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash.
