1 min read

NEWPORT –– Earlier this month, six nurse residents presented their oral projects and graduated from North Country Hospital’s Nurse Residency program.

The program is a rigorous, nine-month residency, where nurses work with a preceptor in their respective departments, build on their clinical skills and gain experience on their units as well as with multiple departments.

“These nurses have excelled in the nurse residency program and have become solid team members on their respective units,” Director of Education, Rhonda Howard, RN, said.

As part of graduation, nurses had to present an oral project, and each of those become standards of care at NCH. A focused program for Insulin administration for gestational diabetes in pregnancy, development of a critical care nursing checklist, postpartum health and baby care, wound care documentation, improving patient handoff in the Emergency Department, and the development of a breastfeeding reference binder, were among the presentations.

Graduates include Mariah Hill, RN (Progressive Care Unit), Julianne Bisson, RN (Maternal/Child Health), Renee Meunier, RN (Progressive Care Unit), Jessica Lefebvre, RN (Emergency Department), Kristine Miller, RN and Makenzie Smith, RN (both on the Maternal/Child Health unit).

NCH says the preceptors are an important part of this program and have given great support as these graduates have become fully trained and continue to be supported.

A special thank you went out from the hospital to Nancy Noble, RN, who takes each and every nurse under her wing throughout this journey.
