1 min read

DERBY — A 17-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle on snow-covered West Street, resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle on March 4 at 5:33 p.m.

The teen was driving a 2011 Audi A6 eastbound when his vehicle began to slide on a corner, according to Vermont State Police.

The Audi crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a 2016 Ford F-150 driven by Kenneth Carriero, 49, of North Troy.

A passenger in Carriero’s truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to North Country Hospital.

Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage.

Investigators determined the primary cause of the collision was the teen’s failure to maintain his lane of travel, with secondary factors being excessive speed for the conditions and the snow-covered roadway.

The Derby Line Fire Department, Newport Ambulance Service, and Ray’s Towing responded to the scene.
