WAWARSING — Deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office responded to a personal injury auto accident involving a tractor-trailer and a sport utility vehicle at approximately 7:06 a.m. on Feb. 25.
The accident occurred on State Route 52 near Old Greenfield Road in the Town of Wawarsing.
A 2014 GMC Acadia, driven by a 36-year-old woman from Mountain Dale, New York, was traveling west when it crossed over the center markings and struck a tractor-trailer head-on.
The tractor-trailer, a 2020 Freightliner, was operated by a 47-year-old man from Saugerties, New York, and was traveling east at the time.
The driver of the GMC Acadia sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by members of the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad.
She was then transported and subsequently flown to Westchester Medical Center by the Life Net Critical Care Flight Team.
The operator of the Freightliner was not injured.
The investigation into the accident remains open and active.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad, and the Ellenville Fire Department.
