Months-long drug investigation leads to Newport arrests

NEWPORT –– Two Newport residents were arrested today following a months-long investigation into cocaine distribution conducted by the Vermont State Police Drug Task Force and the Newport Police Department.

The arrests occurred during the execution of a search warrant at a residence on East Main Street in Newport. Authorities identified the suspects as Brandon Cote, 34, and Rowena Jones, 35, both of Newport.

Cote faces charges including two counts of cocaine sales, possession of cocaine, and possession of regulated drugs. He was processed at the Newport Police Department and is currently being held at the Northern State Correctional Facility. Bail was set at $1,000 for the cocaine sales charges and an additional $200 for the possession charges.

Jones was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of regulated drugs. She was released on citation and is due to appear in court.

The Vermont Drug Task Force expressed appreciation for assistance provided by the Newport Police Department, St. Albans Police Department, Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the investigation.
