WAITSFIELD — A Waterbury woman is accused of using false identities to fraudulently obtain about $40,000 from multiple local organizations, according to Vermont State Police.

Amanda Haskins, 37, allegedly requested funds from the Mad River Valley Interfaith Council in Waitsfield on Dec. 16, claiming she needed money for overdue rent.

The organization later contacted police after suspecting fraud.

An investigation determined Haskins also obtained money from the Mad River Valley Community Fund in Waitsfield and the Community Action Service Team in Waterbury by using multiple aliases and making fraudulent financial claims, police said.

Authorities said Haskins fraudulently secured tens of thousands of dollars from the three organizations before her actions were discovered.

Haskins went to the Vermont State Police Barracks in Berlin on Feb. 26, where she was taken into custody, processed and released on a citation.

She is scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, at 8:30 a.m. April 10.

The affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court and made public following Haskins’ arraignment.
