MIDDLETOWN — Middletown police officers responded to Harbor Park at approximately 7:41 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report that a vehicle had driven into the Connecticut River.

The vehicle was believed to have entered the water on the north side of the park.

Middletown fire personnel also responded, and both agencies began a coordinated search effort using personnel and drones.

Authorities were unable to locate a vehicle in the water.

Search and rescue efforts were suspended due to poor lighting conditions and for the safety of personnel.

The Middletown Police Department Dive Team is expected to resume search and recovery operations Wednesday morning.

Police said there is no public safety threat and no confirmation that anyone was injured.
