CATSKILL — Troopers from multiple State Police barracks arrested five individuals on aggravated driving while intoxicated charges in separate incidents spanning Feb. 13 to Feb. 20.
At approximately 11:20 p.m. on Feb. 13, troopers from State Police Catskill conducted a traffic stop on a 2021 Chevrolet pickup truck on Spring Street in the village of Catskill for multiple violations of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws.
The driver, identified as Edwin Calderon Amaya, 32, of Brooklyn, was found to be intoxicated and arrested.
He was processed at State Police Catskill, where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.18%.
Calderon Amaya was released with an appearance ticket for the Town of Catskill Court on March 13 at 3 p.m.
At approximately 5:06 a.m. on Feb. 14, troopers from State Police Highland responded to a one-car crash on Jenkinstown Road in the town of Gardiner.
A 2015 Ford Explorer traveling east had left the roadway and struck a ditch.
The driver, Lorenzo E. Melendez, 26, of Gardiner, was found to be intoxicated and arrested.
At State Police Highland, he recorded a BAC of 0.24%.
He was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Gardiner Court on March 5 at 5 p.m.
On Feb. 15 at approximately 2:42 a.m., troopers from State Police Haverstraw observed a 2021 Toyota Rav4 traveling on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the town of Ramapo in violation of traffic laws.
The driver, Ramon A. Sanchez, 46, of Pomona, was interviewed and found to be impaired.
He was arrested for aggravated DWI and recorded a BAC of 0.24% at State Police Haverstraw.
Sanchez was released with an appearance ticket for the Town of Ramapo Court on March 18 at 2 p.m.
At approximately 4:07 a.m. on Feb. 17, troopers from State Police Haverstraw responded to a one-car crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway northbound between exits 13 and 14 in the town of Haverstraw.
The driver, Steven Beleno, 26, of Blooming Grove, was traveling north when he lost control of his 2018 Toyota after allegedly being cut off by another vehicle.
His vehicle left the roadway and went down an embankment.
Emergency medical services transported him to Nyack Hospital.
During the investigation, Beleno exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested for DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation.
He refused to provide a BAC sample and was turned over to Nyack Hospital for medical care.
He will be required to report to State Police Haverstraw at a later date for processing.
On Feb. 20 at approximately 12:52 a.m., troopers from State Police Catskill responded to a report of an erratic driver on State Route 385 in the town of Catskill.
When they arrived, they found a 2017 Buick running and parked in the northbound lane.
The driver, Kenneth Gorman, 40, of Hudson, was interviewed and found to be intoxicated.
He was arrested on felony DWI charges due to a prior conviction within 10 years.
He recorded a BAC of 0.17% at State Police Catskill.
Gorman was released with an appearance ticket for the Town of Catskill Court on March 27 at 3 p.m. and was later taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson for further care.
