NEWPORT — Northeast Kingdom Community Action’s See More Thrift Store will temporarily close due to federal funding concerns, the nonprofit announced.
The store at 55 Seymour Lane has provided free clothing and housewares to 220 community members in need over the past year.
“While this is the last thing we want to be doing, especially knowing how important the Thrift Store is to the Newport community, these unprecedented times require us to think strategically,” said Casey Winterson, NEKCA’s director of economic and community based services.
The thrift store has operated for more than 15 years, closing previously only during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent operations have involved volunteers from local agencies including HireAbility, A4TD and the Department of Labor.
NEKCA will host a community forum March 11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 371 Main Street to discuss ways to keep the store open through philanthropic and volunteer resources.
