CATSKILL — One person was killed in a fire that broke out late Wednesday night in a row house in Catskill, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the blaze, which started in a basement apartment, and worked to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes, according to the Catskill Fire Company.
Crews from Hudson and other mutual aid departments assisted in containing the fire.
Firefighters initially attempted an aggressive entry, but worsening conditions led to a brief withdrawal.
A partial collapse occurred on the first floor before firefighters were able to resume their efforts, the fire company said.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
