WESTPORT — Westport police responded to a reported burglary in progress near Compo Beach early Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
Officers arrived at the scene around 3:52 a.m. on Dec. 20 after a resident called 911 to report someone breaking into their home.
Police identified a suspect vehicle, but it fled and eluded capture.
Investigators believe the intruders were confronted before stealing anything.
The incident remains under investigation.
In light of the attempted break-in, the Westport Police Department is urging residents to take extra precautions to secure their homes and vehicles during the holiday season.
Recommended safety measures include:
– Locking all doors and windows, even when leaving for short periods
– Installing deadbolts and securing sliding doors
