BROCKTON — A Brockton man has been taken into custody for allegedly trafficking in a large quantity of drugs resembling fentanyl and possessing illegal firearms and ammunition, authorities announced today.

Joshua Tavares, who was already on probation and subject to pre-trial release conditions, was arrested in a joint operation by Brockton Police, the FBI, and the Massachusetts State Police.

The arrest followed an extensive investigation that led to multiple searches, resulting in the seizure of substantial amounts of drugs and weapons.

Law enforcement officials reported finding around four kilograms of a substance believed to be fentanyl, quantities of cocaine, packaging materials, tens of thousands of dollars in cash, and a variety of firearms.

Among the seized weapons were machinegun conversion devices, which are used to modify firearms into fully automatic weapons.

The successful operation by local police and federal agencies highlights their ongoing commitment to combatting drug-related crime and removing dangerous weapons from the streets.

Such efforts are critical in enhancing public safety and potentially saving lives.
