Holland man faces DUI #4 after Derby crash

DERBY — A Holland man faces his fourth drunk driving charge after a two-vehicle crash Monday evening on U.S. Route 5 in Derby.

Daniel Hawley, 43, was arrested after his Honda Acty rear-ended a 2019 Toyota Highlander that was stopped in the left turn lane at Shattuck Hill Road around 6:19 p.m., Vermont State Police said.

The Toyota’s driver, Brett Schauer, 29, of Albany, was not injured and drove from the scene.

Hawley showed signs of impairment during the investigation and was taken into custody after field sobriety tests, police said.

Hawley was held for lack of $2,500 bail and is scheduled to appear in Orleans Superior Court Tuesday afternoon on the DUI charge.
