EAST MONTPELIER — Lake Region’s cross country team showcased strong individual performances at the Northern Vermont Athletic Conference Championships at U-32 High School, with six runners setting personal records despite fielding a limited squad.

Team captain Xaviar Chapdelaine led the Rangers with a 16th-place finish, clocking 17:53 in the 5-kilometer race — one of the fastest times in school history. Fellow captain Charlie Edlund paced the girls’ squad, shaving more than a minute off her previous best with a time of 23:53.

Mia Lussier broke the 30-minute barrier for the first time, while Gi Chinaglia, Isaac Heinchon and Jeri Thatcher also posted personal bests.

The Rangers competed with just four boys and four girls, preventing them from qualifying for team scoring.

The team will compete next at the Vermont State Championships, scheduled for this weekend at Thetford Academy.
