DALTON — The Dalton Police Department issued a warning on Tuesday about a series of phone scams involving calls that appear to come from the department’s number, telling residents they have warrants out for their arrest.
Authorities confirmed that the calls, which display the department’s phone number, 413-684-0300, are a fraudulent attempt to deceive and extract personal information from individuals.
The scammers have been contacting residents, informing them of supposed arrest warrants issued against them or family members.
The police department clarified in their statement that these calls are not a standard practice, and they would never notify individuals of arrest warrants through a phone call, much less leave such messages.
The department advises the public to remain vigilant and to disregard these calls.
Residents who have received such a call are urged to contact their local police department to report the incident.
The Dalton Police Department also emphasized the importance of not sharing any personal information over the phone, regardless of how insistent the caller may be.
They are actively investigating the scam and seeking to alert the community to prevent potential victimization.
