WESTPORT — A motor vehicle crash on Imperial Avenue near Post Road East this evening has left two pedestrians with critical injuries, according to the Westport Police Department.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. when a vehicle struck the pedestrians on the sidewalk.
Westport Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services responded quickly after a 911 call and provided immediate medical assistance to the victims before transporting them to Norwalk Hospital.
The driver of the vehicle involved stayed at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement.
Police reported the vehicle was heading north on Imperial Avenue when it veered off the road.
Authorities closed off the crash site and redirected traffic to secure the area.
The Westport Police Accident Investigation Team, together with the Fairfield Police Accident Investigation Team, are examining the scene and collecting evidence to ascertain the cause of the accident.
