NEW HAVEN — A 26-year-old New Haven resident was pronounced dead at St. Raphael’s campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital after sustaining multiple stab wounds, police said Saturday.

New Haven police officers were dispatched to the hospital at 2:12 p.m. following a report of a stabbing victim who arrived by private vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers established a crime scene at the main entrance of the hospital where the vehicle had been left.

Investigators determined the assault occurred on Orchard Street, but the exact location was initially unclear.

Shortly after securing the hospital entrance, police received a report of blood found on the walkway and fence of a nearby address on the intersection of Orchard Street and Henry Street, prompting officers to establish a second crime scene.

Detectives have since responded to process both scenes.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The New Haven Police Department is urging witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to contact detectives at 203-946-6304.
