EXETER — A Memorial Day Parade in Exeter was nearly marred by an accident when an SUV struck a parked pickup truck and flipped onto its side, trapping the driver minutes before the event was set to begin.

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Front Street near the Lincoln Street intersection.

According to Exeter Police, a white 2020 Kia Telluride was traveling eastbound just east of Lincoln Street when the driver, who experienced a medical event, hit an unoccupied 2019 Ford Ranger parked at the side of the road.

Detective Bruce Page, who was nearby managing parade-related traffic near St. Michael Church, heard the crash and saw the SUV overturned.

Bystanders also witnessed the incident.

Exeter Fire Department crews responded quickly to extricate the driver, who was not injured in the accident but was transported to Exeter Hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

Both the Kia Telluride and the Ford Ranger sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no further details were immediately available.

The Memorial Day Parade commenced shortly after the incident following a brief delay.
