Salem police investigate armed robbery in Cinemark parking lot

SALEM — On the evening of May 15, an armed robbery in the Cinemark parking lot off Mall Road resulted in three juveniles being robbed at gunpoint and the subsequent assault of two of them.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Salem police patrol units responded to the scene following reports of the incident.

They discovered the juvenile victims along with several damaged vehicles.

According to the initial investigation, two male suspects, armed with handguns, confronted the victims in the parking lot.

A struggle ensued when the suspects attempted to take control of the victims’ vehicle, during which two juveniles were assaulted, sustaining minor injuries.

In an attempt to escape the assailants, the driver of the victims’ vehicle collided with two other parked cars.

The suspects ultimately succeeded in stealing various items from the juveniles before fleeing the scene in a grey Subaru, which was reported to have two female occupants.

The Salem Police Department has declared this an active investigation and urges anyone with information to contact Detective James Carlin.

The department has not released further details at this time.
