New London shooting leaves one dead, one critical in suspected domestic violence case

NEW LONDON — A shooting on Saturday morning in New London has left one person dead and another in critical condition in what authorities suspect to be a case of domestic violence.

The New London Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:34 a.m. reporting gunshot victims at an apartment on 159 Hawthorne Dr. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 30-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man with multiple and single gunshot wounds, respectively.

Both victims were transported to L+M Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Despite life-saving efforts, the 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The woman is currently undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition.

Two children, ages 9 and 5, were found unharmed in the apartment and were taken to the hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

The New London Police Department is actively investigating the incident as an attempted murder and suicide.

The male victim’s identity is being withheld until his next of kin can be notified.

In accordance with privacy and safety concerns, the name of the wounded woman will not be released.
