Fatal crash in Sherborn

SHERBORN — A fatal motor vehicle crash occurred on Western Ave on Friday night when a car traveling from Framingham at more than twice the speed limit struck a tree, authorities said.

The vehicle, a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit, was estimated to be going over 70 mph in a 35 mph zone when it lost control around 9:21 p.m.

According to officials, the car began sliding, and the driver’s side collided with a tree, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

The impact was so intense that the driver’s side compartment and roof caved in, trapping the operator inside.

Emergency responders attempted to extricate the driver, but efforts were unsuccessful.

The operator was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and no additional injuries were reported.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The crash is under investigation by local authorities.
