EVERETT — An undercover operation by the Everett Police Department’s Special Criminal Investigations Unit on Wednesday evening resulted in the arrest of a suspect allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking, with assistance from the department’s Patrol Operations Division.

During the sting operation, officers seized approximately 30 grams of what is believed to be fentanyl, as well as several hundred dollars in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

The identity of the suspect has not been released pending formal charges.

The suspect is facing severe charges including distribution of class A fentanyl and trafficking in fentanyl over 18 grams.

If convicted, the individual could face significant prison time given the gravity of the offenses.

The Everett Police Department issued a warning reminding the public about the dangers of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid that has been linked to a surge in overdose deaths across Massachusetts.

The state has reported record numbers of fatalities due to fentanyl overdoses, underscoring the importance of cracking down on the illicit trade of this life-threatening substance.
