South Hampton resident killed in car crash, Hildale Ave. bridge closed indefinitely

SOUTH HAMPTON — A South Hampton resident was pronounced dead at Exeter Hospital after their vehicle plunged into the Powwow River following a crash on Hildale Ave. onThursday afternoon.

South Hampton Police and Fire Departments, along with Amesbury Fire, responded to the incident near 171 Hildale Ave. around 4:41 p.m. after a vehicle traveling westbound broke through the guardrail and became submerged in the river due to a swift current.

Emergency personnel arrived to find civilians attempting to rescue the driver, whose name has not been released pending notification of family members.

The extensive damage to the bridge from the accident has prompted authorities to close Hildale Ave. at the site of the crash for an undetermined period.

The South Hampton Police and Fire Departments received assistance from East Kingston Fire, Newton Police, East Kingston Police, and Kensington Police Department.

The South Hampton Police Department is actively investigating the accident, and Lt. Eric Yih is urging anyone with information to contact him at 1-603-394-0108.
