FAIRFIELD — A local woman escaped injury early Thursday morning when her SUV slid off an icy road and overturned in a field.

Police said Lynda Ulrich, 63, of Fairfield, was driving south on Castle Road near Church Road around 8:28 a.m. when her 2018 Ford Expedition hit a frozen rut and spun out.

The vehicle slid down an embankment and rolled onto its roof on the grassy field.

Ulrich, who was wearing her seat belt, managed to self-extract from the vehicle without reporting any injuries.

The Expedition sustained significant damage to the driver’s side and roof and was towed from the scene.

Authorities remind drivers to exercise caution and reduce speeds during adverse weather conditions.
