Norton police arrest Hyde Park man after high-speed chase, find counterfeit bills

NORTON — A Hyde Park man was arrested early Saturday after leading police on a high-speed chase through Norton streets, authorities said.

The pursuit began at 1:13 a.m. when Norton Police attempted to stop a vehicle on East Main Street for traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver tried to evade the officers, driving erratically, but was eventually stopped on East Main Street near the Route 495 overpass.

During the arrest, police discovered several counterfeit bills and various licenses and identification cards in the operator’s possession.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody without further incident.

He was released on $5,000 cash bail and appeared in Attleboro District Court on Monday.

The charges against him include operating under the influence of liquor (3rd offense), failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, marked lanes violation, failure to stop at a red light, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and possession of counterfeit bills.
