MILTON — A Milton resident was arrested on charges of identity theft, false pretenses, and grand larceny in connection with a scheme involving the unauthorized filing of taxes and opening of fraudulent bank and credit card accounts.

Vermont State Police said Casey Bushey, 30, was taken into custody on Dec. 9 after an investigation revealed Bushey filed taxes early last year for Nicole Labonte, 25, of Fletcher, and opened a fraudulent bank account in Labonte’s name.

Authorities stated that several thousand dollars from Labonte’s tax return were transferred to Bushey, and a fake credit card was also issued under Labonte’s identity.

Bushey, who faces charges of identity theft — a second or subsequent offense — as well as false pretenses and grand larceny, was released on citation.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court – Chittenden Criminal Division on Feb. 27 at 8:30 a.m.
