Jeep Cherokee sideswipes bicyclist in Colchester

COLCHESTER –– A motor vehicle collision involving a Jeep Cherokee and a bicyclist on Roosevelt Highway resulted in minor injuries and temporary traffic congestion on Oct. 27, according to the Colchester Police Department.

The incident occurred at around 4:18 p.m. near Sunderland Woods. Police identified the driver as 56-year-old Steven Blair of Colchester, and the bicyclist as 47-year-old Thomas Howard of Burlington.

Blair, who was driving southbound in his 2004 Jeep Cherokee, reportedly side-swiped Howard, who was also heading southbound on his bike along the shoulder of the highway.

Howard received on-the-spot treatment from Colchester Rescue for minor injuries sustained from the crash.

The Colchester Police Department, assisted by Colchester Rescue and Colchester Fire, responded to the incident.

Traffic was temporarily disrupted in both directions as first responders attended to the scene.

While preliminary investigation suggests that speed and impairment were not factors in the crash, the incident is still under investigation.
