PITTSFIELD –– An unarmed robbery incident occurred at Mavis Tire on Merrill Road on Thursday evening, according to the Pittsfield Police Department.
Captain Gary Traversa, who authored the release, said officers responded to the scene at 7:48 p.m.
The individual allegedly gained unauthorized access to a restricted area of the business and took an undisclosed amount of cash.
Pittsfield police are disputing earlier media reports suggesting the incident was an armed robbery.
“The Pittsfield Police Department has no information which indicates that the incident was an armed robbery,” Traversa said.
He further emphasized that there is no information indicating that a weapon was displayed during the event.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information about it to contact the Pittsfield Police Department Detective Bureau at 413-448-9705.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Pittsfield Police Department.
