Police cruiser collides with Jeep in Pittsfiled

PITTSFIELD –– A Pittsfield Police Department cruiser collided with a Jeep Wrangler at the Coltsville intersection while responding to a disturbance call on October 15, according to a media release from the department.

The incident occurred around 4:22 p.m. when Officer Matthew Ahern, accompanied by Officer Pezze, was driving north on Merrill Rd, attempting to continue on Cheshire Rd.

Their cruiser struck a westbound 2023 Jeep Wrangler driven by Kimberly Gaylord, 57, of Peru, MA. Gaylord’s two grandchildren were also in the vehicle.

The impact caused the Jeep to spin and roll onto its driver side.

All occupants of the Jeep and Officer Ahern were transported to Berkshire Medical Center for minor injuries. They were later released.

The part of the intersection affected by the accident was closed for approximately one hour for debris removal and vehicle clearance.

The incident is under investigation by Lt. Marc Maddalena of the Pittsfield Police Traffic Unit.
