Bank robbery at Bank of America in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH –– An unarmed suspect robbed the Bank of America on 848 Islington Street Saturday morning, according to the Portsmouth Police Department.

The robbery occurred at approximately 10:17 a.m. on September 23, 2023. The suspect, a white male roughly 5’8 to 5’10 tall, did not display a weapon but stated he had one.

He was seen wearing a black winter hat, sunglasses, and a black face covering.

Patrol and detectives, accompanied by Portsmouth Police K-9 Crash, responded to the scene. The area was searched, but the suspect was not found.

However, officers were able to locate and collect evidence left behind by the suspect with the assistance of the K-9 unit.

The suspect fled across the street towards the railroad tracks after obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Portsmouth Police Department’s detectives and Crime Scene Team fully processed the bank and spoke with witnesses.

Due to the active status of the investigation, the department is not releasing the type of evidence found at the scene or the exact amount of money stolen.

The department also expressed gratitude to the New Hampshire State Police and the F.B.I. for their assistance with the ongoing investigation.
