Stamford house fire claims life of homeowner

STAMFORD — A residential fire at 48 Powel Place claimed the life of the homeowner, officials said Friday.

The Stamford Fire Department responded to the blaze at approximately 6:55 p.m. on May 3, where firefighters worked to extinguish the flames engulfing the home.

After the fire was brought under control, authorities discovered 67-year-old Mark Palmer deceased inside the house.

The Fire Marshal from the Stamford Fire Department, alongside Connecticut State Police Fire Investigators and the Stamford Police Arson Unit, were present at the scene to investigate the incident.

They are currently assessing any signs of foul play as part of their ongoing examination.

The Stamford Police Department continues to maintain a presence at the location as the investigation remains active.
