70-year-old injured during single-vehicle crash in Colchester

COLCHESTER – A 70-year-old man from Amityville, NY, suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 in Colchester on Sunday morning.

According to Vermont State Police, Robert Handler was driving his 2013 Kia Optima northbound on I-89 at around 7:34 a.m. when he drifted off the roadway, struck a guardrail, and then crossed both lanes of travel before traveling off the roadway to the right and striking a rock face.

Fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene and determined that Handler required transportation.

He was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center for injuries.

Investigation revealed that an unknown medical episode appears to be the cause of the crash.

The vehicle sustained total damage and was towed from the scene by Spillane’s Towing and Recovery.

Vermont State Police were assisted by Colchester Fire and Rescue in responding to the crash.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
