Dump truck fire causes road closure on Route 111 in Arundel

ARUNDEL — A dump truck caught fire on Route 111, leading to road closures and traffic detours during rush hour today.

The incident occurred near 987 Alfred Road after the driver, 19-year-old Logan S.

Ricker of Sanford, noticed smoke emanating from the vehicle.

Ricker, who was operating a 2005 Kenworth dump truck owned by N.M.

Curtis Earthworks of Berwick, had just turned onto Alfred Road from Limerick Road when he spotted the smoke and promptly pulled over.

Shortly after, the dump truck was fully engulfed in flames.

Fire departments from Arundel, Goodwins Mills, and Biddeford quickly arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

Alfred Road was shut down for an extended period while Ray’s Truck Services worked to remove the charred remains of the dump truck.

Drivers in the area were forced to seek alternative routes during the evening commute.

The York County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details on the cause of the fire.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
