NAZARETH, PA — A 25-year-old man was arrested March 1 after police said he drove the wrong way on Route 33 North and resisted officers during a stop near the Belfast exit.

Officers were dispatched at about 3:06 a.m. to assist Pennsylvania State Police with a report of a wrong-way driver traveling south in the northbound lanes of Route 33 and passing Wind Gap, according to police.

Officers from Slate Belt Regional Police positioned themselves near the Belfast exit on Route 33 North and observed the vehicle, police said.

Police said officers attempted to stop the vehicle as it continued driving head-on toward oncoming traffic.

The vehicle eventually stopped in the center median, and the driver refused commands to exit, according to police.

Police said the driver was forcibly removed from the vehicle and continued to resist officers as they tried to take him into custody.

The man was identified as Marcus R. Ball, 25, according to police.

Officers observed signs of impairment, and Ball was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

Police said Ball refused a request to submit to a chemical test.

Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, but Ball refused to cooperate and did not allow officers to carry out the warrant, according to police.

Ball was transported to Northampton County Prison and arraigned on the charges, police said.

He was charged with recklessly endangering another person, obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, resisting arrest, DUI-general impairment, and various traffic offenses.

Court records were not immediately available.
