EASTTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Police are warning residents about fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The messages claim recipients have unpaid fines or traffic tickets and direct them to click a link to make a payment.

Police said the messages are a scam.

Authorities are advising residents not to click the link, not to enter any personal or banking information and to delete the message immediately.

Government agencies like PennDOT will not send unsolicited text messages demanding payment through random links, police said.
