COLEBROOK, NH — A Colebrook police officer arrested a 61-year-old man on drug and speeding charges after a traffic stop in a school zone Wednesday afternoon.

Brian Bresnahan, of Boscawen, was charged with transporting alcohol or marijuana and speeding.

The incident occurred at 2:47 p.m. on Main Street.

A Colebrook police officer was running radar in the school zone while school was being dismissed when he observed a pickup truck exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 mph.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Bresnahan.

Upon approaching the driver, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Following a brief investigation, the officer seized a mason-style jar half filled with marijuana and other paraphernalia.

The officer conducted standardized field sobriety testing to ensure Bresnahan was not driving impaired.

Bresnahan was arrested and transported to the Colebrook Police Department, where he was booked and later released on a summons to appear in court.

Under New Hampshire law, possession of marijuana inside a motor vehicle with a broken seal carries the same penalties as an open container of alcohol, including a $150 fine plus penalty assessment and 60 days loss of license for a first offense.
