Scam text messages reported in Bridgeport

1 min read

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Police are warning residents about fraudulent text messages falsely claiming to be from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.

The scam messages claim recipients owe money for traffic violations and include a link urging immediate payment.

The DMV does not send text messages to the public, according to police.

The link in the message is not the official DMV website.

Police are advising residents not to click on the link and not to respond to the message.

The texts are designed to trick recipients into giving up personal or financial information, police said.

Anyone who receives one of these messages should delete it immediately.

Police recommend going directly to the DMV’s official website when in doubt.
