GROVETON, NH — A man experiencing a mental health crisis was safely taken into custody after a brief standoff Tuesday afternoon.

State troopers assigned to the Troop F barracks received a request for a welfare check at a home on Main Street around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Reports indicated that a man was actively breaking the glass windows of the home and throwing objects out of them.

When troopers arrived, the man barricaded himself inside the home.

Due to concerns for the man’s well-being, as well as the safety of others in the downtown area, the area surrounding the home was contained and additional resources were requested, including troopers trained in crisis intervention.

Staff at the nearby Groveton Elementary School also placed the facility in lockdown as a precaution.

After some time, the man complied with police commands, exited the home, and was taken into custody before he was transported and evaluated at an area hospital.

No one was hurt in connection with this incident.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department as well as Groveton Ambulance.
